How to Watch Videos on iPod and iPhone - 3 Step Guide & Short FAQ

Most people that own an iphone or ipod video know they can watch videos but maybe you don't know how to exactly. So I have written an article that will help you to learn all the ways in which you can watch videos on your brand new iphone.

Watching Movies, Sports, Music Videos or any other videos you already own:

1. The first step in watching videos that you already own is to get them on your computer. If its a dvd just pop it into your computers dvd rom drive. Next you will need to get a dvd ripper this will allow you to put the dvd movie into your computer's hard drive. This will take sometime depending on what dvd ripper you have. (If you already have the videos that you want to watch on your iphone on your computer's hard drive go to Step 2)

2. To watch the videos on your iphone or ipod video you will need to convert the videos you already have to the iphone format. For this you will need an iphone/ipod video converter or any other program that converts video files to .mp4 (H.264 encoding) because this the only format of video that the iphone/ipod plays. This will also take a while depending on how big your video file is and how good your iphone/ipod video converter is.

Now before you continue on putting the video files onto your iphone/ipod make sure all of them are in the proper iphone/ipod format. You do not need to worry about this if you used a video converter that converts videos to iphone/ipod format.

3. After you've ripped and converted all the videos you want all that is left to do is to actually put it on your iphone/ipod. This is by far the easiest step and takes the least time because this can be done right from itunes. All you need to do connect your iphone to the computer. Then open up itunes scan the video files into the itunes library and then put the videos files right from itunes to your iphone or ipod video.

The Simple Shortcut Secrets:

I will also tell your about two different simple shortcuts. These shortcuts will allow you to skip Steps 1 and 2. You will want to skip these steps because it takes a lot of time to rip and convert video files.

1. The first shortcut is that there are some websites on the Internet which allows you to download movies, sports, music videos and other videos for the iphone/ipod directly from their site for free after you pay a one time fee. The good thing about these websites is that the videos you download will already come in the iphone/ipod format. This means you do not need to rip or convert the videos which will save a lot of time.

2. The second shortcut is youtube. Youtube and Apple have devolved a close partnership. Now you can watch the videos on youtube encoded with the H264 format directly on your iphone By the end of this month youtube will have over 10,000 videos which you can watch your iphone. Furthermore you will also be able to download these videos via EDGE or Wi-Fi connection.

The FAQ

Q: Can I watch any video in any format that I own on my iPhone or iPod Video?

You can watch any video on your iPhone/iPod Video as long as it is in a certain format. For you to watch videos on your iPhone/iPod Video the videos must be in .mp4 format.

Q: Can I watch videos online on my iPhone?

The only online videos you can watch on your iPhone are the youtube videos encoded in H.264 format. There are already over 10,000 videos on youtube in this format, and they are working hard to convert many of their remaining videos to this format as well.

Q: How is the quality of videos on the iPhone and iPod video?

The quality is great on both depending on the video. If you are watching a DVD Video you will get the same quality as if you where watching on a normal television expect in a smaller screen. However in my opinion the iPhone offers a slightly better video viewing experience than the iPod video due to the larger screen

Q: Are there any sites that allow me to download and watch videos in iPhone/iPod Video format?

Yes there are many sites that offer a vast verity of movies, music, videos and other stuff for the iPhone and iPod Video.

Q: Are these sites expensive?

Most of these sites charges you a one time fee of about $50 and then you get unlimited movies, music and other downloads from their website.

Protect Your iPhone

Surely, when Apple formally introduced iPhone into the world at the end of June, many came up lining, wanting to be one of the firsts to get hold of the revolutionary cell phone called the iPhone. However, it came as it is: naked.

Apple has also created some accessories that people can purchase and enjoy together with iPhone. But if you were to shed a few dollars off your pocket, then you better buy one that will make your newly acquired phone long lasting: iPhone case.

Because iPhone now uses the touch screen technology, there's hardly any room for scratches. Yet it doesn't necessarily mean that it should remain unprotected from harm and that it still is possible to get dings and scratches.

There are about three types of iPhone cases sold today. One of them is iPhone skins. Skin usually refers to the cover that will cover the phone entirely. You can access the navigation and side buttons, screen, camera, and charger through its cutouts. Skins are flexible but rugged, thanks to a perfect blend of silicon and plastic.

What's good about skin is that they can completely protect the surface of your phone. However, if your skin is mainly made up of silicone, then it can't offer you so much just in case you accidentally drop the iPhone. The iPhone skins spells variety, you can buy them in different colors, even with some added accessories like neck straps and screen protector.

A tiny piece of silicone that protects an iPhone's front side is called a screen protector. It also possesses a circular cutout that allows you to utilize the primary navigation button, found at the bottom portion of the iPhone. You can then put a skin on top of the screen protector. However, if you want to get a good deal on screen protector, go for those that can resist dust and contain anti-glare properties. Or you can simply opt to buy an iPhone skin with a screen protector.

Lastly, there are what you call as iPhone cases and wallets. These are covers that you can attach on your jeans or on your wallets. You can place your iPhone inside them. The main difference between cell phone holsters and cases is that the latter can protect your phone even if it's not in use. Leather is a typical material used for cases and wallets. And since they come in different styles, you can simply choose what fits your personality.

Think of an iPhone case as a worthwhile investment.

A Comparison of iPhone And iPhone 3G

The movement that iPhone came into market brought a technical revolution in the cell phone market. People found some imperfections while loving it. So based on the weakness of iPhone, Apple Inc. launched the second generation of iPhone, iPhone 3G in 9th June, 2008 which had been improved in many parts. So we will make a comparison of the two generations to see what had been changed in iPhone 3G.

1. Outlines.

As we can see from the pictures that the colors of iPhone is part black and part white. But iPhone 3G is totally black or totally white. The covering of iPhone was metal while the 3G's was plastic so the 3G is a little lighter than iPhone. And about the size of two cell phones, 3G is a little bigger than iPhone which is hard to been found by eyes.

2. Main Body

Comparing with iPhone, iPhone 3G took lessons from the design of MacBook Air, so the arc on the back of cell phone made the phone looks much more beautiful. The other point was that the headphone connector that was a big problem in the past Apple products was improved. The 3.5 mm headphone jack was designed on the side of the cell phone and it makes every kind of headphones possible to be applied.

3. Networks

The difference of networks was most obvious difference of the two cell phones. iPhone did not support the 3G networks that made it a target to be criticized by the medias. This time, iPhone 3G had stepped up to 3.5G level and support WCDMA/HSDPA networks. According to Jobs' saying the speed is much faster than Nokia N95.

4. Built-in functions

Another advantage of iPhone 3G was that GPS module was added which supports the mobile navigation and location search. The camera was the same as iPhone, but for the GPS, it could provide the geographic grid of the pictures. The cell phone could record the latitude, longitude and altitude of the shooting locations. And the picture element per inch (ppi) of iPhone 3G increased to 163 ppi from 160 ppi of iPhone without any improvement of the screen and distinguishability.

5. Battery

The battery of iPhone 3G was still designed as fixed as iPhone. The standby time and speaking time of iPhone 3G had increased much by comparing with iPhone. The speaking time in 2 G networks increased from 8 hours to 10 hours and the standby time increased from 250 hours to 300 hours. But the online time, music and video playing time did not changed comparing from the past. Besides, there is a tool in the sales package of iPhone 3G to help the customers take out the SIM card easily.

6. Software

The improvement of iPhone 3G in software was effective. It could support many languages, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and other Asian languages. And it support gesture recognition. The iPhone 2.0 firmware could support AppStore software store that the developer all over the world could discharge by free or sell iPhone software through the store.

7. Price

The last difference that the customers could experience themselves was the price of the two cell phones. iPhone 3G was only 199 dollars when it first come into the market. So it was cheaper than iPhone.

All these differences put together, we could find the difference of iPhone and iPhone 3G clearly. But in all they are cell phones, though they have differences, but they would not change very much. They are Apple's cell phones.

How To Put Limewire Music, Youtube & Google Video, or DVD Video to iPhone

1. Put music and videos from Limewire to iPhone

Limewire is a download tool I assume lot of us use. I often use it to download free music and videos and put them on my iPhone. If you don't have Limewire, you can download it from its official website.

Search and download songs from Limewire. You may get songs in all sorts of formats, but not all formats are supported by iPhone. Usually I select three formats: MP3, AAC and M4A formats that are supported by iPhone and can be directly transferred to iPhone using iTunes. You can visit the official website of Apple for the detailed specs info for iPhone. After you download the songs, open your iTunes, click "File" from the upper left corner, select "Add file to library", browse your computer hard drive and find the songs downloaded by Limewire, select the songs you prefer, click OK and the songs will be put in your iTunes. Then you can just transfer the songs to your iPhone from iTunes.

2. Youtube video to iPhone

I often visit Youtube to watch videos on iPhone and sometimes I download videos which cannot be found on iPhone from Youtube to put on my iPhone. Youtube videos are in FLV formats, so I use a free online FLV converter to do the conversion.

Firstly, go to Youtube and open the page of the video you want to put on your iPhone. And you will find the Youtube URL of this video to the right of the playback window. Then copy this URL.

Secondly, go to vixy.net , paste the copied URL into the URL field of this web page, and select "MP4 for iPod/PSP" from the "Converts to" drop-down list. (iPod Video could also be used on iPhone. This will save you a lot effort if you have many iPod videos.) Then click "Start" below this list to start the conversion.

Finally, after the conversion, this website will provide a download link for you to download the converted MP4 file. When you see the link, you can just download the final file from the link, save the downloaded MP4 file on your computer and use iTunes to sync it on to your iPhone.

Here you can get a free resource website list which has free stream video you can download for free.

3. Google Videos on iPhone

Because Google allows you to download (most) videos from their site in an iPhone compatible format, all you need to do is download that version of the video. To do this, pull up Google Video and search for a video as you normally would. When you actually get to the video, you're not going to see much. To play the video, click the little select list on the right and select "Video iPod/Sony PSP" and press "Done". Press download and the video will come up shortly. Simple, right?

4. DVD/Video to iPhone

I have a huge collection of DVD movies and video files. And I always put a few movies on my iPhone to kill time while I'm on the subway/bus.

DVD movies cannot be transferred to iPhone via iTunes directly, so I had to find a converter to do that. I have used a few converters and the one I am using now is Wondershare DVD to iPhone Converter. It is not free, but not expensive either. I decided to spend the money coz it does a good job on the final quality and conversion speed. And if I don't want to put a whole movie, I can just convert part of a movie onto my iPhone with this app. My OS is Windows, so I use the Windows version. If you are using a Mac OS, I have noticed that they have a Mac DVD to iPhone converter that you can try, which I don't know if is as good because I don't have Mac OS.

Most of my video files are not MP4 formats that can be directly used on iPhone, so I also bought the iPhone Video Converter from the same company coz I thought it would also be nice app, and it turned out to be so great! Actually, this video converter and the DVD converter are pretty much the same as far as the functions and the operational steps are concerned, and the only difference to me is that one is to convert DVDs and the other is to convert video files. Meanwhile, these programs are all able to work for iPod and Apple TV; this will save you some bulks if you happen to have an iPhone or an Apple TV. If you also want a video to iPhone converter, you can just download a trial version to see if it is what you need. Unfortunately, they don't have a Mac version for video converters.

5. Sync music and videos to iPhone

So far, using iTunes to sync files to iPhone is the only choice we can make. I use iTunes too but I have found it a bit clunky. So let me show how to sync music and videos.

Select the audio/video files you want to sync from your iTunes library, drag them under "PLAYLISTS", and a new playlist will be created with all the selected files in it. Then you can click the Music menu tab, check the "Selected playlists" option, and select the newly created playlist to sync.

If you want to remove the files, just uncheck the box and you will find the way.

The above is my experience with converting and transferring files from various sources to my iPhone, and I hope it can shed some light.

You can get easy access to the sleep/wake, home buttons, volume controls and the proximity sensor through the case. The case also has a swivel belt clip that offers full impact protection to the delicate screen.

For a reasonable price of $49.95, by far, this is the best among the iPhone cases available in the market at HandStands.com. However, you should take not of the fact that the case would work only with the Apple iPhone and is not compatible with the Apple iPod Touch.
